Thame Dolls House & Miniatures Fair 2010 Report

Saturday 20th February 2010-Thame Leisure Centre

breast cancer campaign

Dear Customers

Well what a day it was! The snow stayed away and the day was truly amazing. Literally 100's of visitors piled through the doors and it was our best, biggest and busiest fair ever! With 45 artisans attending, there was once again that very special and happy atmosphere that always seems to be present at Thame Fair. Thank you to all of you who came and visited my stand....we had some fascinating chats throughout the day and it was great to put faces to names!

There were a few of those weird and whacky moments such as when someone for reasons unbeknown to all, suddenly let her dog loose into the hall and down the aisles as the stand holders were just setting up ,with chaos ensuing. Then there was that scary moment for me when the fair was just about to open and suddenly I was handed a mobile phone and found myself talking to a DJ on Mix96 Radio! Once again the parking due to sheer volume of visitors was difficult however this year, it did seem a little better as many visitors took heed of advice and parked around the side streets, taking the short cut to the venue over the school playground!

The local club (MTM) had a wonderful exhibition of their work along with their now infamous Tombola and many of the members helped out with selling raffle tickets, manning doors, blowing up dozens of balloons etc. for which I was most grateful .

The winner of the delightful "Second Hand Rose Shop" donated by the four wonderful ladies of The Violet Cottage Dolls House Club from Wiltshire was won by Marilyn Cooke of Aylesbury. The winner with the highest bid of £150.00 for "A Box Of Memories", in the Sealed Bid Auction was Rosemary Farr from Bletchley.

I am thrilled to say that so far, the total raised for Breast Cancer Campaign stands at a magnificent £3, 407.56....so thank you everyone who contributed in some way....this amount far exceeds even the total we raised last year and there is still more to come in!

Now to a little announcement....it is with some regret and sadness that after four wonderful years under the banner of KT Miniatures (& two previously on behalf of the Thame Club) I am having to take a step back from organising Thame Dolls House & Miniatures Fair. However, I am absolutely delighted to announce that a lovely couple namely Felicity and Ron Holland have agreed to take over the organisation of the event and have vowed to carry on the very special ethos and uniqueness that Thame Fair has become renowned for.  I wish them both well in this venture and am quite sure that the wonderful fair will continue to move forward under their ownership.

I can confirm that the new date for Thame Dolls House & Miniatures Fair 2011 is Saturday 19th February 2011. I shall still be there as a stand holder plus will have responsibility for the Breast Cancer Campaign Sales Table and Raffle....and will be quietly supporting behind the scenes.

Finally.... many of you may have noticed a lady walking around with a microphone all afternoon at the fair, interviewing some of the artisans. This was Sarah Taylor, Senior Producer of BBC Radio Documentaries who is making a programme about Dolls Houses....and the programme with these interviews will be broadcast on Radio 4 at 11.30 on 10th June.
