Wartime House

by Christine Davison from Rugby in Warwickshire

The house is one of the last Fairbanks houses (it was discontinued by Dolls House Emporium shortly after I bought mine).

Side of house

My husband modified it slightly to take the French doors out of the kitchen and moved them instead to the rear of the lounge to lead into the back yard. We also added a small extension onto the base-board on the back to make the yard a bit deeper and a bigger extension onto the side to allow me to create this wonderful wartime garden.

Lead roofs on bay windows      Bird looking for a titbit!

The lead roofs on the bay windows I have to give credit to my husband Mark for. The original roofs of the bays were flat and I did not like them. He created replacement roofs out of wood and shaped them to as you see in the photo. I then managed to acquire some thin lead sheet from a company called Richard Stacey and glued this to the modified roofs. I think it looks quite good - certainly better than the original flat roofs.

Grandma Hilda is busy in the kitchen as wash-day and bake-day have come together.

All the latest mod cons!

Dad has just arrived home on leave and mum is about to pour him a welcome cup of tea in the dining-room.

Sorting photos in the lounge.

The latest dance music.

The children had to share the bedroom in wartime.

Home-made clothes in nan & grandad's room.

The clothes on the bed are 2 dresses that mum can't make up her mind which to wear. There is a pink and lilac dress which would match the coat hanging on the wardrobe door, but she also likes the black dress which shows off her figure a bit more. The wedding is an old friend of hers that she knew before she got married and moved into the house she now lives in, and she wants to make sure she looks just right for the occasion.

Grandpa Charlie is taking a break from his hard work in the garden to have a chat with Frank the warden who is paying him a visit.

Edward is just home from school and his younger sister, Doris, is playing in the back yard with her dolly while the rabbits are having a run.

His 4-year old baby sister is sitting on the outside loo, but she is still frightened of shutting the door

"I owe a great deal of thanks to a wonderful lady named Teresa Thompson of costumecavalcade.co.uk (see links page) who made all of the dolls for me. Without all of her wonderful dolls and all of the "wartime" pieces I bought off the KT miniatures website, this house would not have been half of what it has turned out to be. My grateful thanks to both of you."

Christine Davison

I am sure you will agree with me that Christine has created something truly inspiring and wonderful here, and KT Miniatures would like to thank her for all the time and effort that went into photographing & wording all that you see on this page!
