This is a rare "C" version of the 1960's Tri-ang Dolls Bungalow and the largest of the three versions that were manufactured. It is constructed from wood, printed board and plastic doors/windows.

DIMENSIONS

Overall base length is just under 46" (consisting of two boards bolted together). Depth of base is 33" and the highest point would be to top of chimney which measures just under 11" high.

Tri-ang Bungalow C Back View

Because of the materials used for this seven roomed bungalow and the way it is constructed, it appears that many did not survive completely intact (well the ones that were actually played with anyway). The plastic doors particularly are quite fragile and the walls too. I can see exactly why......I'm afraid this example too is no exception to the rule and has suffered some play damage. However, for anyone who is a serious collector of Tri-angs or of retro dolls houses, then you won't mind the few tears or few broken doors...and you will simply love this!

Be warned though...it is big and will take up considerable space once erected (please take note of dimensions stated above before ordering!

INTERIOR

The previous owner told me that as a child she found it very annoying having to erect and dismantle this whole bungalow each time she wanted to play with it, as due to it's large size and lack of space in her childhood home, this had to be so.

Consequently some walls have suffered a little but could easily be mended (if you wished) with tape. She and I have left it well alone meanwhile. Also, due to normal play, some of the pegs on the plastic doors have snapped off and doorways come adrift so they do not stay in place (very similar to the Jenny's Home doors). However they are all still present so can be propped/slipped into place witha little gentle manipulation.

You will see in the living room that there is a bulb either side of the chimney plus I understand originally batteries would have been housed inside the chimney however these no longer work.

EXTERIOR

The base and structure is joined together by screws, bolts and wing-nuts, all contained in the original bag. The original plan with details for construction is still present and included. Each wall slides into place via a wooden grooved joint, however some of the boards are beginning to curl from use over the years, so may need a little attention...but nothing too serious.

At the rear, there are windows into each room plus a back door from the lounge which is missing from the photo due to the nib of the door being broken, however, the door is present can can be slotted into place....maybe with the aid of a little gripwax or blutac.

THE ROOF

The very pretty pastel green roof consists of three separate wooden sections which slot into place.

DAMAGE

Tri-ang Bungalow C Damage To Hall Walls

As mentioned previously, there is a little damage that has occurred to the cardboard walls. Mainly as seen here to the hall walls. One tear appears on the side where the front door is situated, consequently the front door frame will need realigning. Then, as also seen in photo, there is a tare on the hall/bathroom wall and again, the doorway will need re-fixing into place. However I do not envisage this as serious, as in my opinion with a little cellotape and manipualtion, this can be remedied satisfactorily.

And Finally....

Tri-ang Bungalow C Lounge Rear View2

As I said above, this is not in perfect condition but even so, this is an ideal opportunity for a serious collector to take possession of a delightful retro and rare version of a Tri-ang Bungalow "C". In the Tri-ang catalogues, this was described as "an attractive modern bungalow.....complete with long sunshine windows."

It is also suggested in the accompanying plan with instructions for constructing, "why not furnish your new bungalow from the extensive range of Tri-ang Spot-On true-to-scale Dolls House Furniture.

Tri-ang Bungalow C Plan

Well why not indeed....and you can find many examples of Tri-ang furniture on the Tri-ang section under the Old 1/16th Scale Heading of this website?

PLEASE NOTE: Due to size, sheer weight and fragility of this bungalow, this will have to be collected. Sorry but not available for overseas delivery.

THIS BUNGALOW IS NOW DISMANTLED SO WHOEVER PURCHASES IT WILL FIND IT EASIER TO COLLECT & TRANSPORT. THE BASE COMES IN TWO LOOSE PARTS & THE ROOF IN THREE SEPARATE PARTS. ALL OTHER PIECES ARE LOOSE IN A BOX.
