BOOK ONE
The Tale Of Winsford House
@ £5.99 plus p&p
By Celia Thomas

Winsford House was thought to be just another 1960’s dolls house on first inspection, but when renovation began, a lovely discovery was made which saw this dolls house turn into something quite unique indeed.
This is a very brief story of the tale that this little dolls house revealed and includes details on how it was renovated to bring it back to its former glory, with handy tips on vintage dolls house restoration. One of these tips includes detailed information on how to replicate vintage dolls house brick paper.

BOOK TWO
Bubby's House & A Little Old Bungalow.
Two Unique 1930's Dolls Houses @ £5.99 plus p&p
By Celia Thomas

If you love vintage dolls houses and are a fan of all things 1930’s, then you should enjoy this little peek at Bubby’s House, a fascinating and unique dolls house made by a gentleman for his daughter in the decade preceding World War 2.
For good measure, I have also incorporated into this same book a short feature on a 1930’s bungalow which is from my own personal collection, instantly recognisable to anyone who has frequented the “Old Dolls House Gallery” section tucked away on KT Miniatures’ website. This charming bungalow, again in original condition with its own hand made furniture, actually sits in all its glory up high in my loft workroom, providing inspiration in abundance when needed, as I sit and work at my miniatures.

2.BARTON MODEL HOME
By Marion Osborne
Giving the history of the firm from 1948 - 1984. One of the founder members of the firm has given details of the early days. A catalogue from 1957 has been completely illustrated with drawings and photos of all the various items. Catalogue pages for 1966, 1972 and 1979, adverts from various magazines all help to give all the known information on this prolific firm. A separate section covers the Tudor range of furniture.
Also included is the history and details (where known) of items made by Taylor & Barrett Ltd 1922 - 41, metal pieces such as hoover, fire irons, jug and ewer, etc. After the war the two partners separated and formed A Barrett & Sons Ltd (1945 - 84) and F G Taylor & Sons Ltd (1945 - 84). Both firms continued to make metal items after the war; the metal was gradually replaced with metal until eventually only plastic was used. Items made by the firms were fires, hoovers, cookers, washing machines, telephones, fridges etc.
Another section is about Grecon dolls made by Miss Cohn from 1938 - 1986. These dolls have a wire skeleton with cloth faces and clothes made from felt/cotton/wool, then nylon materials. Finally Kaybot Novelties with their plaster fireplaces, pictures, plates of food and toby jugs.

Using adverts and articles from "Games & Toys", a magazine for the Toy Trade, plus various catalogues, the book encompasses the period 1914 – 41 in an A _ Z format. Amersham and Pit a Pat are both fully covered with illustration, plus many other manufacturers of that era. Jammed full of information, not only on dollshouses and furnishings, includes listings of trade names for several years in the 1920’s from "Games & Toys".
The book has 205 pages and costs £18.00 including postage and packing to UK.
***I can highly recommend Marion's books, particularly if you are a novice and just embarking out into the "old dolls house world". Even if you are a seasoned & knowledgeable collector you will also find these useful in identifying your pieces. I must admit, my copies have been well thumbed and I still find them invaluable.
International Dolls House News Magazine
I know this is not a book but just had to include this.
This was a monthly magazine, discontinued a few years ago now, however if you can lay your hands on any old issues you will always find references & articles on old dolls houses with some wonderful photography.

Thank you to Marilyn Pittman from the USA, for recommending the books below (the following text is in Marilyn's own words).
"Dian Zillner has three other dollhouse books that also are very informative. (She has also written books on other subjects). Patty Cooper co-authored or helped with with some of the dollhouse books. The three that I highly recommend in the order that they were written, (excluding the ones you already have on the list) are as follows:
"American Dollhouses and Furniture From the 20th Century"
By Dian Zillner
"Antique & Collectible Dollhouses and Their Furnishings"
By Dian Zillner & Patty Cooper
"Furnished Dollhouses 1880's-1980's"
By Dian Zillner with Patty Cooper (this is one of my favorites)
"Dian and Patty also wrote "Toy Buildings 1880-1980"
This book also has a few pages of houses.

Again, thank you to Marilyn Pittman from the USA for recommending another book, that has recently become available. The following is in Marilyn's own words.
"Dollhouse and Miniature Dolls 1840-1990".
By Marcie Tubbs and her husband Bob, with Dian Zillner
Published by Schiffer
"It is a large hardback with 256 glossy pages. The title is "Dollhouse and Miniature Dolls 1840-1990". Most pages have color pictures, along with the name of the company that made the doll and the time period. There is also a suggested price guide with the picture. I have been able to identify several of my dollhouse inhabitants of which I had no history. It was available on Amazon.com"
If you have any other suggestions of recommended reading that would be useful for anyone interested in antique or vintage dolls houses, then please let us know here at KT Miniatures so that we can add the titles to this list.
Many thanks.
