My First Day At School
This was created as my contribution for our local dolls house club's annual project of a room box scene based on a special event. I created a room box scene based on my own memories of my very first day at school back in the early sixties. Our school was an old 1930s wooden building complete with outside loos. The only form of heating was the huge old coke stove.
The entire project was featured over four issues of Dolls House & Miniatures Scene magazine (Issues 164-167) as a "how to make" project. Finally this room box was auctioned off at the 2008 Thame Dolls House & Miniatures Fair in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign.

NOSTALGIA IN MINIATURE
We were honoured to have been invited to produce a 16 page supplement to accompany the December 2006 issue of Dolls House & Miniature Scene magazine, which was their 150th issue.

My basic brief was to create pages on nostalgia in miniatures
Amongst the projects produced was a pantry through three separate eras -1930s-1950s, plus the same fireplace scene at Xmas through the three eras.

Same Fireplace at Xmas through three different eras - 1930s/40s & 50s
1950s Jumble Sale Scene
This room setting was featured as a "how to make" article in the Winter 2006 issue of Dolls House Projects.

This old scene was great fun to do. It was based on my memory of our old local run down 1930s church hall, which was used for all kinds of community activities ranging from Sunday School, brownies & cubs, baby clinic, evening classes etc through to fetes, bazaars and of course jumble sales.
We based this in the 1950s so items on the tables were from that era or before.
One of the aims of this article was to illustrate that you do not need expensive materials to create miniature scenes. For example the "wooden" wall panelling was once a cereal packet!
1950s Lounge & Kitchen

This setting was created for a "show how to make" article featured in the August & September Issues 2006.
It was a quite a challenge to combine two rooms in such a small space & then having to write instructions for people to construct this themselves!
The architecture was that of a 1930s house that had been updated by the elderly gentleman of the house who was keen on DIY. He is reading the latest issue of Practical Householder whilst listening to Dick Barton on the 1950s radio; his wife is cooking him some delicious fish-fingers (quite a novelty in the mid 50s).
The wonderful 1950s dolls were made by Caroline Nix of Woodside Dolls, the exquisite 1950s vase and cat ornament by Sally Meekin, the food by Mags-Nificent Miniatures.
Wartime Kitchen

This room box was created for a "show how to make" article featured in Dolls House & Miniature Scene Magazine (April & May issues 2006 no.142 & no.143)
This was loosely based on the 1940s Kitchen found in York's Castle Museum.
Instructions on how to construct this room box setting. including how to make a simple quarry tiled flooring out of a cereal packet!

ROOM BOXES MADE WITH ACCOMPANYING "HOW TO MAKE" ARTICLES FOR
THE DOLLS HOUSE WORLD MAGAZINE
Wartime Kitchen Room Box

This was created to feature in the Dolls House World Magazine (September & October Issues 2004) along with our accompanying "Blackout & Bloomers" article that showed how to make the room box setting plus many of the items.
Old Attic Room Box

This box was created to feature in the October and November Issues 2003 Dolls House World Magazine. Over the two issues, detailed instructions on how to create this room setting plus many of the items that went in it, were given in the accompanying articles.

Finally this was presented to my father for his 80th birthday present, as it is most of his mementoes that are featured in this room box.
He had thought I had been borrowing his possessions such as RAF jacket, certificates, documents, photos etc just to create the article. Little did he know it was all part of a cunning plan!
