FORDINGBRIDGE DOLLS HOUSE @ £225.00

circa 1920s-1930s

SOLD

Antique Fordingbridge Dolls House

This is a most unusual handmade and very old dolls house. It is in a good played with condition with some delightful features. It was already named  "Fordingbridge" when I acquired it however the reason for this name is unknown, but I think the name is quite apt.

Access is at the front via two opening panels. Three of the windows have real glass, the fourth is missing.  The front door is most unusual in so much as only one bottom left hand door opens, the other parts which appear to be the door complete with knobs are fixed? Have never seen a dolls  house quite like this before and has very real character.

At the top of each side panel are these wonderful ornate metal handles which  makes carrying easy. The side panels are painted however the back is quite intriguing! It appears that a long time ago some old bold patterned wallpaper had been added to this back panel then painted over in burgundy. It has unsurprisingly bubbled in places but as it is to the rear of this house and largely unseen,  I personally don't feel that this is an issue. Just makes it even more wonderful by contributing to it's character!

Another favourite part of this house for me is the roof. There is the most delightful pattern, that I would imagine has been block stamped all over and the effect is extremely attractive. The chimneys are also constructed of wood and the chimney pots appear to be metal piping.

Inside it appears to have been renovated, probably not that long ago. You could always replace this with some of our antique wallpaper if you wished! The fireplaces are handmade & again add real character to this lovely house. All windows have pieces of lace hanging as curtains, some with glue markings and I don't think it is that old, so may be worth replacing with old material or lace.

The ceilings are high, about 10",  so I would suggest that this would be ideal at the very least for antique 1/12th scale or better still, 1/10th?

There are some cracks in the frontage of the wood, nothing of major worry.

MEASUREMENTS

Width=18"    Depth=12" Height=28 1/2" to top of chimney pots

This is a truly delightful house and if you are looking for an antique dolls house with a difference to add to your collection, then this could be ideal for you.

    PLEASE NOTE: This cannot be posted but MUST be picked up in person due to the fragility of the glass and of the house itself. Recently we posted a wooden Victorian dolls house that only had an insignificant tiny crack in the wooden back however by the time it arrived to the customer the crack had turned into major crack!

If picking up is not possible, other arrangements may be possible at cost. Please enquire with us if necessary.
