Collection 11

by Margaret Hope of Chepstow

1930s Hobbies House

Hobbies 1930s House

NB. Here we have a variation of the Hobbies House that appears in Collection 2. Margaret's is different from the other one, as it has a central staircase & opens at the front. Plans and components for this house would have been purchased from "Hobbies" and this model was available for quite a few years.

The following is in Margaret's own words.

The house was purchased from KT Miniatures. When I first viewed it I wasn’t’ very impressed as it was covered in bright red brick paper and looked very tatty, however, I have grown to love it.

I would imagine that the person who made it originally did not have a lot of spare money as it is constructed of various types and thickness of timber, or  maybe wood was in short supply.

As the house is front opening you are unable to view the hall easily, but it has its original papers and lino on the stairs.

The house has been decorated throughout, using period papers from KT Miniatures.

I recently purchased a set of the original plans, so my next project is to build the garage, which sat alongside.

Lastly, I need to start adding the furniture.

Tri-ang No 52

This is another house that I have purchased from KT Miniatures, it was just what I had been looking for.

It was in reasonable condition but had been overpainted and under the paint someone had scribbled on the wood in blue crayon.

Tri-ang No 52 After Renovation

I have only given it a coat of paint and painted the base to look like the original. The house should have double garage doors, I have not replaced these as there is nowhere to hang them. It maybe that the front panel was replaced at some time.

The furnishings are probably not to everyones taste but I have enjoyed making the most of the items and that is what I feel this hobby is all about.

I plan to make a replica sun room and chimey at some stage, but at present have more interesting projects waiting!
