Barton

All items are in the 1/16th scale unless otherwise stated

  • A Barton & Co.(Toys) Ltd started trading officially in 1945, as soon as the war finished. However Mr Barton himself had previously been called up as a full time fireman in 1939 and to alleviate the boredom in between "shouts" during the quiet early stages of the war, along with his fellow colleagues, had begun to make dolls house bits. In fact the famous Hamleys of London asked them to make the wooden seats for a stock of their dolls house Japanese porcelain toilets. They at that time used the trademark PEKO.
  • The first official trademark of Bartons was an ink stamp of a diamond with the letter A B & Co. Then in 1949 this was replaced with a label for a time.
  • Bartons flourished, using other suppliers for certain items eg.Barrett & Son metal items, Grecon Dolls, Kaybot plaster fireplaces & food.
  • For a very rough guide to dating your Barton furniture; card backs were used until mid 1950s, then plywood backs took over mid 50s followed by hardboard from late 1960s; stapled furniture 1960s or later; if chipboard backed then 1965-1971 approx.
  • In 1975 the Caroline's Home Range was brought out.  By now the use of plastic was extensive.
  • In 1984 Barton was bought out by Lundby Ltd.

LOUNGE

Barton 1940s BureauRare c1946-1949 Barton Bureau @ £17.95RESERVED

This lovely wooden bureau is in a good played with condition with a drop down desk top plus one drawer opens. However one set of books is missing on the right upper side plus the lower drawer is stuck and does not open.

Nevertheless this is a lovely, very old and much sought after piece as this retains the Bartons black ink stamp on the reverse which means it was made just after the war from 1946 - 1949. Perfect for anyone with a very old vintage dolls house of this era. This ink stamp was used from 1946 to 1948/9. (Did you know that the plywood on the reverse of this dresser was originally destined for Mosquito Bomber Planes!)*

This wooden and plastic sink unit is in a well played with condition. Both doors open however the right hand door is a little loose so has a tendency to fall off completely when you try to open it. Barton Dolls House Kitchen UnitsOne Wall & One Base Unit Barton 1970s @ £8.00

This is a wooden base unit and wall unit, in a good condition with all plastic doors opening to reveal a shelf in each.

Originally these would have been mounted on a mock tiled cardobard backing, however I am guessing....as what so often happened, is that the previous owner glued the whole thing into previous house, and ripped it all out when selling dolls house. Resulting in backing card being torn so taken off completely.

Please note however that although it was sold at the time with the 1/16th dolls house items, it is actually big enough for 1/12th scale. Therefore if your 1/16th scale house has very low ceilings and small doors, you may find that this will not fit ie. will be as big as your front door. However if scale does not matter quite so much to you then this will not be a problem.

Measures 4" from tip of handle to front of cleaner in position as seen in photo.
